Early Years Foundation Stage

Play is vital for children.  It’s through play that babies and young children learn, grow and have fun. It helps them understand the world and to develop socially and emotionally.  Singing songs, reading together, playing games with letters and numbers and having fun all gives children a head start in life.  It also helps their confidence, so they can handle what life brings them.
From 2008, the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework for learning, developiment and care for children, aged from birth to five, became compulsory in all pre-school childcare settings.  All Children’s Centre nurseries in Torbay work to this framework, helping children to get the best start in life.  To find out more about the EYFS visit www.direct.gov.uk/eyfs opens in a new window.
