Many farmers and workers in developing countries struggle to provide for themselves and their families. In some cases, global market conditions can mean that the price producers receive for their crops may not even cover the cost of production.
The FAIRTRADE Mark is an independent guarantee that producers have received a fair price for their crops and received an additional social premium which they can reinvest in community projects. The FAIRTRADE Mark is awarded by the Fairtrade Foundation to products that meet international Fairtrade standards which include:
- A fair and stable price
- Decent wages and working conditions
- No child labour
- Environmental standards
- A commitment to long term sustainable production
By choosing products with the FAIRTRADE Mark you can make a real difference to the lives of producers in developing countries. There are now over 2,500 Fairtrade certified products available including teas, coffees, sugar, rice, spices, fresh and dried fruit, juices, wines, biscuits, cereal and cotton clothing!
