There are many children, young people and families in Torbay who want fast and efficient access to information, or who are in need of some advice and support.
The Locality Services can help.
What are Localities?
The Locality Services are multi-agency teams involving children’s services, schools, Connexions, health services and the police. They will respond to local needs and act as the first point of contact to help the many children, young people and families in Torbay.
Locality Services are bringing together existing services so that local people can access them through two locations in the Bay providing a better fit with the needs of the local community. The Locality Services are not offering new services, just a different, easier way in which to access them.
The teams will be based within two locations across the Bay, one in Torquay and one serving Paignton and Brixham.
How do they work?
Staff within each multi-agency Locality work together to provide you with a fast response. We aim to provide you with a friendly, approachable service that you can access over the phone or by simply dropping in during opening hours.
What services are offered within the Locality Services?
- Torbay Youth Service
- Family and Parenting Support
- Extended Services such as information on after school activities
- Attendance Improvement Officers
- Careers advice and support through Connexions
- Specialist information such as advice and guidance on sexual health and relationships, drugs and alcohol
- Family group conferencing
- Links to advice and support from Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
- Targeted Youth Support
- Volunteering Service - Hand in Hand / mentoring volunteer team service
- Links to the police, school nurses, Torbay’s ADHD group, Children’s Domestic Violence Group and the wider range of services offered by Torbay Council's Services.

What help and support will I be given?
You will be able to access advice, information and support all under one roof.
Self-referrals can be made or you can be referred to the Locality Services by a GP, their school, NHS or other services.

Torbay Council's Children's Services and partners celebrated the official launch of the new Locality Services in the Bay on Wednesday 17 October when the teams opened their doors to the public.
