The Torbay Leadership Academy (TLA) is a local authority/Torbay schools’ initiative to bring all leadership development activity under one ‘umbrella’. Leaders, at all stages of their career, need fast and efficient access to support, professional development and regular opportunities for research and enquiry.
The TLA endorses the National College’s core goals:
- Develop excellent school leadership to transform children’s achievement and well-being
- Identify and grow tomorrow’s leaders
- Develop leadership within and beyond the school
Once established, the TLA will provide a similar access point for leaders in the wider children’s services. It will also contribute to the leadership development of children and young people.
How does the TLA work?
Leadership activity is organised within 4 areas: leadership support, leadership development, leadership research and enquiry, and succession planning. The TLA profiles leadership learning and enables access to a range of local, national and international learning opportunities.
Who leads the TLA?
The TLA is not led by any one organisation. However, all partners have a shared responsibility for promoting, nurturing and developing leadership within Torbay. A stewardship group of stakeholders meets regularly.
The stewardship group aims to:
- Shape the work of the leadership academy
- Promote the growth of leadership development
- Support innovation that works
- Stimulate productive learning networks
- Ensure accountability
- Create sustainable leadership
