Torbay Council’s Communications Team covers all aspects of communications, design and web roles for the council, both internally and externally. Examples are:
- media releases (approximately 400 per year of which 99% are taken up by the media)
- journalist enquiries (approximately 2,500 per year)
- broadcast interviews and journalist briefings
- service information leaflets and brochures (approximately 700 per year including high level strategies such as the Community Plan, Corporate Plan, Annual Report, council tax booklet
- website and webcasting – the council received around 3 million hits on its website in the last 12 months
- council’s Facebook and Twitter
sites with over 700 and 500 followers respectively - develop, design and publicise various external campaigns such as Top Trumps; Family Information Service, Torbay Together and anti dog fouling
- brand management – making sure that council services and property are clearly branded in the corporate style so that people can easily see who is responsible for those services
- internal communications - staff newsletter and briefings
- advice and guidance to council staff, elected members and schools on media and public relations.
The communications team supports all council services to ensure that service information is provided in plain, clear language using good design and within the council’s overall branding guidelines.
In civil emergencies, the communications team has a key role to play in supporting the council’s emergency management team in issuing updates for the public and the media and giving guidance on crisis communications.
