Torbay Council is committed to delivering its services to its customers in ways that are convenient, and easy to use. As part of this commitment the council is now contactable by SMS text message.

The council is contactable, via SMS text message on: 07786 202800*.

* Please note that the council is not, at present, able to process MMS messages (messages containing image, audio or video content). Any messages containing this content sent to the above number will not be processed. The 07786 202800 number is used for the receipt of text messages only - please do not use it for voice calls.

  • What is SMS?
    SMS stands for Short Messaging Service and is a text based messaging service for mobile phones.
  • How much will the service cost me?
    The council will not charge you for the SMS messages you receive.
    Standard networks charges apply to any messages sent to the council via SMS. This is dependant on your mobile phone tariff.
  • Can I send a photo, video or sound file via using MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service)?
    At the moment the council's text service is limited to text based messages only. Multimedia message content will not be processed.
  • What if I don't own a mobile phone?
    The council is committed to developing its services in ways that support easy access and freedom of choice. Any of the services (current and future) provided by the text service can be accessed using more traditional methods (telephone, face to face, postal etc).
